Creating a successful blog is incredibly difficult. It takes years and years of consistent blogging to earn enough of an online audience to consider your blog an established success. A successful blog is hardly ever an overnight success, blogging is extremely competitive, and it’s difficult to find the right voice and niche.
There’s also not much money in blogging. Unless you charge a subscription fee for your content, your usual sources of income will be sponsorships and advertising. Gaining enough traffic to earn sponsorships and advertising is an entirely higher hurdle than gaining a sizable audience alone, and that’s often not what the goal of many bloggers is.
And as professional writer Mark Manson explains “in many cases the methods you use to monetize [your blog] kill your brand and tarnish your writing’s credibility, making [it] impossible to turn into money-makers.”
