When you think of brands that kids love, your mind probably goes to long-time favorites like Xbox, McDonalds, or Legos. The sort of company that makes the toys kids adore and food they never tire of eating.
That would be a fair guess…until this year.

In its 8th Brand Love study, Smarty Pants examined the brands kids and their parents love. 8,125 kids and their parents participated in the 3-month survey where they ranked 280 brands in more than 20 different categories.
The results? YouTube is the number one brand among children. The popular platform for original video content creators rose from 7th place in last year’s survey, beating out popular brands like M&Ms, Oreo, and rival Netflix. In particular, the site was preferred by more boys than girls.
This development reinforces the importance of YouTube advertising for marketers advertising to children. Would your brand more effectively reach its audience through YouTube over traditional avenues such as TV advertising on channels like Nickelodeon? Or, would your brand find more success creating original content for children on YouTube as Transformers and Gundam did in the 80s on TV?
